Snowglobe Theatre is proud to present our second “main stage” online production, Sam Shepard’s True West, adapted for live stream.

This production will further our exploration of the webcam medium, including staging and setting, and will be presented live on both Zoom and Facebook Live. There will be two performances:

Saturday, August 29th – 8 pm

Sunday, August 30th – 8 pm

After each show there will be a Q&A and talkback with the artists, and throughout there will be a moderator on Facebook to take comments and interact with the audience as the show is performing. The tickets are pay-what-you-can.

We hope you’ll come out to support us and the terrific artists involved, and especially to enjoy this fun and beloved work by Shepard. For our Zoom production we find his themes have, if anything, a particularly poignant relevance: family dysfunction, love/hate relationships, the fickleness of the film industry and the uncertainty of the arts, and especially isolation and feeling trapped. This piece has a special resonance during COVID times, as people find themselves isolating or co-isolating in the summer’s heat.

Synopsis
Austin, a struggling screenwriter in L.A., is staying at his mother’s house to finish a screenplay and sell it to a Hollywood producer (Saul). His brother, Lee, a wild-man who has been living on the desert for the past five years, has finally returned. The confrontation between the two of them encompasses what has happened to each of them for the last five years, what has become of their family, and culminates in a power struggle over Saul’s attention as Lee presents a screenplay idea of his own to compete with his brother’s. The tensions of being stuck with each other in the house, trying to write and come to terms with each other’s needs come to a head when their Mom makes her appearance and everything falls apart.
